Oasis Hydrology Meeting (July 20)

Oasis Hydrology Meeting (July 20)

An online meeting was held with the participation of both the Egyptian and Japanese teams.

Dr. Ahmed Elzeiny presented findings on heavy metal contamination in soils, identifying cadmium as a primary concern, particularly around urban areas and drainage ponds. He outlined the methodology, results, and indices used to assess contamination and ecological risk.

Dr. Safwat Gabr discussed geological and hydrological aspects, including the presence of natural springs, iron deposits, and historical irrigation practices.

The presentations were followed by discussions and questions from participants, including Dr. Adel Shalaby, Dr. Shuichiro Yoshida, and others, who sought clarifications on contamination sources, data integration, and potential areas for further analysis, such as plant bioaccumulation and groundwater monitoring.

The meeting also addressed challenges related to waterlogging, land degradation, and emphasized the need for integrated approaches to better understand the water and salt balance in the region.
