Research Report
A ten-day field work was conducted to assess groundwater resources and irrigation dynamics in Kharga Oasis. Hydrogeological and geological surveys were carried out along a transect spanning ancient hydraulic systems at the Monastery of Munira and Labkha Spring in northern Kharga to modern drainage catchments at Kharga Lake. Discharge and recharge patterns in the northern sectors were analyzed in relation to expanding agricultural zones in the eastern, western, and southern regions. Results highlight the complex water balance of the oasis and the increasing stress placed on the Nubian Sandstone Aquifer System.
