The second Joint Coordination Committee (JCC) meeting was held at NARSS.
The meeting covered progress updates from four working groups: Oasis Hydrology, Oasis Agriculture, Digital Platform, and Oasis Society. Key discussions included findings from soil and groundwater quality studies in the Kharga Oasis, testing of water-efficient irrigation methods, development of a digital mobile application for farmers to report problems and receive expert advice, and challenges with installing IoT devices due to security approvals required from the Ministry of Defense.
Dr. Hanan Magdy, Governor of New Valley, attended the meeting and emphasized the critical importance of sustainable groundwater management for the region’s daily life and agricultural development, noting that the project addresses urgent issues in water resource sustainability. She agreed to establish a joint team between the New Valley Governorate and NARSS to support IT installation in the field and the development of the digital platform.
